Happy Fall! The first day of fall was September 22, share something fall related you did!
Here's a bitter truth.
I don't really love fall.
When pumpkin spice EVERYTHING starts showing up in my Pinterest feed, I start to twitch. When Facebook turns to talk of trips to the pumpkin patch and the first blessed Pumpkin Spice latte of the season, I cringe.
Now before you start hurling rotten jack-o-lantern guts at me, at least TRY to let me explain.
It's not fall itself so much that I dislike, but to me it's just a big pre-winter, and winter? Now THAT I really despise.
Winter means cold feet and chapped lips and no sun and the inability to go outside where there is SUNSHINE and snow and dreary and soul-crushingly short days with no sunshine. Did I mention there isn't enough sunshine to suit me in the winter time?
Anyway, fall can certainly be lovely at times, with all the brisk weather and the beautiful colors and the return of jeans and hoodies and whatnot, but for me it's just a signal of things to come, and by "things" I mean "snow" and ain't nobody got time for that. Oh, plus every fall my neighbors start to hate me so that's always fun.
But even though fall isn't my favorite (give me a good spring or summer any day) I do soldier on and try to make it somewhat enjoyable for the boys. We do the pumpkin patch business every year, and each year I try to outdo myself while carving jack-o-lanterns . So far this year all I've managed is to take the boys to the Fall Festival at Zachary's school and to order Halloween costumes - Buzz Lightyear for Cooper and quite inexplicably a werewolf for Zack, in case you wondered.
We will get the rest of it done, though. We will do the frolicking in the leaves, and the hot apple cider, and the roasting marshmallows for the last s'mores of the year.
Then I will go into hibernation and not come out until spring, because spring is a season I can really get behind.
