A quote you saw on Pinterest that inspired you.
For real, I could write about this every damn day, because every damn day, I see something on Pinterest that makes me say, "WORD." Do people even say "WORD" now? Anyway, something that has been on my mind a lot lately is writing - MY writing to be specific - and I've been blown away by some of these quotes.
So true, Mr. King, so true.
Poor punctuation aside, I think Mr. Faulkner knows of which he speaks.
What? My first draft doesn't have to be perfect? And if I'm stuck it's really ok to move on and come back later? Crazy talk.

I write fiction longhand and I used to keep my current work in a folder marked "Crappy First Draft."
ReplyDeleteAnd Stephen King is right--for me, right now, working on fiction is absolutely terror inducing. Good/bad for me, it's not profitable, so I'm focusing on my other writing for the moment. Yes, I'm wussing out, but I can't pay my bills with literary dedication.
Paying the bills comes first! I read somewhere that everyone has at least one good novel in her. I think I'll go with that.

ReplyDeleteI've never done national novel writing month, because November is probably the worst possible time for me to dedicate myself to that much writing. Maybe I should schedule my own novel writing month when it's convenient to me - say April ;)
DeleteThat's EXACTLY why I've never done it either. I swear, Nanowrimo was invented by Brooklyn hipsters who moved to NYC from somewhere else. How can I write 50,000 words in the same month as Thanksgiving? Or any month that involves seeing my family. Which is most months.

ReplyDeleteSeriously! Any time I write an outline I end up totally ignoring it, because that's just not what HAPPENS when I start writing.
