Here I Go Again - BlogHer Book Club

This is a paid review for BlogHer Book Club but the opinions expressed are my own.

If you've ever stumbled on my blog before, you probably already know that I'm a book junkie.

I could say "avid reader" instead, but that doesn't really do justice to the way I feel about books and reading.

Reading is my first love, and it's a love I've managed to maintain an ongoing, healthy relationship with for more than three and a half decades.

THAT is an amazing accomplishment, if I do say so myself.  So when the BlogHer book club selected me to participate in a discussion about Jen Lancaster's Here I Go Again, I was beside myself with joy.

Typically my reading tastes run toward mysteries, police procedurals, and an occasional fantasy kind of thing, and this book was none of those.  It was, however, a fun, easy read.

The story revolves around Lissy, who was the "it" girl in high school.  She was the head cheerleader, the leader of the cool (and mean) girl clique, and she was the girl everyone wanted to be and to be like.

The book starts during the weeks leading up to her 20 year class reunion, where we find Lissy kinda fat, REALLY broke, recently unemployed and in a failing marriage to the the high school quarterback she married just because that's just what head cheerleaders do.  Oh, and she had to move back in with her Mom and Dad. Good times.

At her reunion, Lissy is shocked to discover that no one remembers her quite as fondly as she remembers herself.  Ok, that's an understatement.  Most of her former classmates loathe and despise her.

And that's where the story gets good.

If you could go back in time and do things differently, would you? Should you?  Is there really truth to this whole "butterfly effect" business?   Would you learn from your mistakes, or would you be destined to repeat them over and over?  And can people really change?

Here I Go Again is a really fun read that I thoroughly enjoyed.  Jen Lancaster's humorous writing style and entertaining characters kept me interested until the very end... which I will not spoil for you.  Go read it for yourself, then join in the discussion on the BlogHer Book Club website.
