I know.
Insane.
I used to love to craft things. My friend Natalie and I used to craft all kinds of things. Well, ok, maybe we didn't really FINISH any of them, but we did buy lots of beads and wire and things and spontaneously yell "WE COULD MAKE THAT!" every time we would to see something cute and shiny and dangly.
I used to quilt. Not well, but I did it. And I loved it.
I'm not sure why I stopped, exactly, but I'm sure it has something to do with having a job with responsibilities and then having a house that seems to always need to be cleaned and then having these boys who always need to be fed and loved and such.
But I feel like I'm back on the crafting wagon, such as it is.
Anyway, so far most of my crafting has consisted of pinning things I would like to make, but not actually making many of them. Oh, and also, I've spent a whole lot of time shopping for craft supplies. Michael's is like a time warp. I walk in at 10 and come out at 2, feeling like I've only been there 15 minutes or so.
But I have done a couple things.
A couple weeks ago, I made these shoes for myself - not a Christmas gift, I know - and they were easy and fun.

Did you start with canvas shoes both times? I'm thinking I could cover a pair of canvas slip-ons with pictures of antique John Deere tractors and my dad would have his favorite Christmas present EVER!
ReplyDelete@Angie, The first pair was some sort of fake leather vinyl stuff, but the second pair was canvas. The canvas was definitely easier to work with. The only issue I had with the canvas was in places where I did not put any artwork the glue showed, so I had to put a thin layer of mod podge over the uncovered areas so it would match up. Did that make any sense at all? I think the antique tractors sound awesome for your dad! Also, I'm currently thinking tote bags will be my next project for this treatment :-)

ReplyDeleteI love love love doing crafts!! But I've been too broke lately trying to be a writer so I just busted out my half-knitted blanket. Figured it was a good time to get that 5 year project wrapped up.

Did you use any sealer? You need something water resistant right or is mod podge enough?
ReplyDeleteI used the Mod Podge spray sealer that is waterproof - http://www.amazon.com/Plaid-Mod-Podge-1469-12-Ounce/dp/B003VY9DNM I probably wouldn't jump in any puddles with them on, but they've held up pretty well so far. Thanks for stopping by!
