Still running.

At the beginning of the year, I set out to run 1,000 miles in 2013.

So far, so good.

As of today, I've logged a little over 120 miles, which is - dare I say it - slightly ahead of schedule. (If you're interested, I'm tracking my progress on my sidebar.  Keep cheering me on.  Or shaming me.  Whatever works for you.  I respond equally well to both.)

And it's been good.

I know enough about myself to know that I work better with specific goals to drive me, and at this point I'm feeling good about my about my progress.

The encouragement from my online running group certainly helps, too.

When I started running almost three years ago, I couldn't run for five minutes without stopping. I ran 100 miles last month without even exerting that much effort.

I've come a long way.

To me, running has just become something I do, like shower or brush my teeth or eat dinner or whatever.

It's a habit. And it's a good one, I think.

If you would have told me 10 years ago, or 15 years ago, or 5 years ago, that I would be running nearly every day and loving it, I would have called you crazy.

Now, I feel crazy if I don't get my run in.

It's a powerful thing, to be able to accomplish things you never dreamed you'd do.

So here's to the next 900 or so miles.

May they keep me sane, keep me healthy, and keep me proud of the person I've become.

  2. I don't exactly know where you live but you've got to have bad weather, right? The weather here in the Tri-State Area (read like Doofenshmirtz) has been atrocious! How do you motivate yourself to run when it's so gross or on a treadmill? Sadly my secret competition with you is going abismally!

    1. I live kinda in the middle of Kentucky. It's gross here about 9 months a year. Because of the kids, I mainly run on the treadmill. I prefer outdoors of course, but I have watched 8 seasons of criminal minds and 6 seasons of cold case while running, so that's something I guess :) I hope you have power right now and aren't snowed in!

    2. I've been plugin my headphones into the treadmill jack and watching the overhead TVs but at 10am all that is on is Racheal Ray or Dr Oz. Womp Womp.
