This is due to a tricky combination of he already has it, he already bought it, or he doesn't like it.
When Father's Day rolled around last month
"What should we get Daddy for Father's Day?" I asked.
"Well, I saw a really cool Batman toy I think he would like. It has super bat wings and blahblahblahblahblahblah and I bet he would love it!" was zj's response.
"Mickey Mouse hat!" yelled cj.
Although I see the appeal in both those gifts and RJ would too, I'm sure, I talked the boys into crafting a gift for him
I quickly searched Pinterest and found this post. Since I had everything necessary on hand including a cool red frame I had picked up a a yard sale for a buck, we gave it a go.
And it turned out pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself.
Here's what we did:
First I went online and found a clipart tree that I liked (with no leaves) and saved it. Then in Word I created the page with the tree, red line and writing down below. I printed it out and then the fun really started. I used paint and painted the zj's hands (one blue, one green) and he went first (his are the slightly larger prints on the bottom of each side). After zj's prints were dry, I did cj's - who, by the way, screamed "GET IT OFF ME GET IT OFF ME GET IT OFF ME I DON'T YIKE GWEEN HANDS!!!" the entire time - and let those dry.
Since the frame I had was larger than the paper I printed on, I used a piece of scrapbook paper as a background and taped the front page on it on with double-sided tape. Once it was in the frame, it looked pretty awesome, and now RJ has something cool to hang in his office at work.
Now I know this isn't exactly a TIMELY post, since it's nearly a year until Father's Day rolls around again, but I think Grandparent's Day is coming up soon, like September, maybe (I'm a little unclear on the exact timing since all the kids' grandparents are either dead or uninterested), but this would be a great gift for that, or parent's birthdays, or Christmas, or whatever.
Score for mommy!!
